Becca Hatch – Please U (ft. Planet Vegeta)

Emerging Western Sydney artist Becca Hatch releases new single ‘Please U’ (feat. Planet Vegeta), having recently signed to Hau Latukefu’s Forever Ever Records / Sony Music Entertainment Australia.

Speaking on the track, Becca says “‘Please U’ is a playful track about a crush that you can’t seem to shake. It’s a song that explores the feeling of constantly thinking about that one person regardless of the time of day, where you are, and what you’re doing. It’s a perfect Valentines jam.”

Becca has firmly established herself as one of Australia’s most promising talents with a resume littered with stellar achievements at just 20 years old after rising to national attention last year with the release of independent singles ‘2560’ and ‘Girl Like Me’.

Over the last two months, Becca has performed socially distances shows with the likes of Winston Surfshirt, GRAACE, Tasman Keith and Thandi Phoenix.

With a distinct sound rooted in R&B, Becca leans into her Samoan heritage with powerful gospel choir vocals and tranquil island sounds, while her Indigenous roots are evident on each song through storytelling and poignant self-reflection.

Bakar – Play

Bakar continues his string of releases with new single ‘Play’. The London artist – who over the last few years has become one of the freshest and most vital new voices in UK music

Produced by Bakar and longtime collaborator Zach Nahome, ‘Play’ continues to build on the global success of 2019’s “Will You Be My Yellow” EP and its standout sleeper hit “Hell N Back”, which has been streamed over 100 million times to date globally and is accredited ARIA Gold.

Much of Bakar’s music pays tribute to classic songwriting, full of warmth and wordplay. But Bakar’s is an undeniably contemporary take, in part informed by his first generation British experience (“I make black music. We’re hip hop kids – everything comes from that place”) and a network of likeminded global collaborators and peers: whether collaborating with Kenny Beats, Dominic Fike and BENEE or absorbing knowledge from the likes of Skepta, A$AP Mob or Virgil Abloh. In contrast, he hasn’t had a phone for two years so he can always be focused on songwriting rather than social media, instead spending his time writing songs on the move, whether on the tube or walking the streets.

Meanwhile, Bakar continues to work on a new album. The follow up to Badkid, his acclaimed 2018 debut album, will be released in 2021.

Watling & Bates – Candy Moon

‘Candy Moon’ unleashes the reckless exuberance of first love with this enthusiastic offering of rockabilly jazz and hillbilly swing. ‘Dance like no one’s watching’ has taken on a new meaning during the COVID-19 era, with dancefloors looking to be shut down for quite a while. The infectious rhythm and addictive beat of ‘Candy Moon’ will drive you to your feet in the safety and comfort of your own lounge room. Fire up the wireless as Watling & Bates deliver some howling nostalgia showcasing the elegant guitar stylings of producer Thor Phillips and masterful drumbeats of Marcus Schintler.

Watling & Bates are songwriters from Unumgar NSW, raconteurs of contemporary rural Australia and revivalists of the country’s past. Their unique brand of old-time gothic hillbilly honkytonk has taken them from country roads to city streets, performing in art galleries, metropolitan malls, pubs and clubs, majestic theatres, and country halls.

A total of ten songs from their debut EP ‘Before I Met You’ and first album ‘Small Town Tales’ were recognised as semi-finalists in the Tamworth Songwriters Association Salute awards from 2018-2020, with ‘In The Dead Of Night’ reaching the finals of the Country Blues category in 2019, and ‘Wondering About My Time’ making the finals of the Gospel/Spiritual category in 2020.

Their works placed in Top 30 categories of the Australian Songwriters Association National Songwriting Awards in 2019 (‘Barry & Adrienne’, ‘Such Is Life’) and 2020 (‘Small Town Tales’, ‘Wondering About My Time’), with Watling receiving a nomination for the prestigious Rudy Brandsma Award for ‘Boots Beside The Bed’ in 2019.

Their debut at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in 2020 included performances with Indie Country Music Australia (ICMA) at the South Tamworth Bowling Club, where they were nominated for Most Popular Independent Country Duo, Most Popular Video, and Most Popular Single for ‘Old Times’. They featured in the Tamworth Songwiters’ Association (TSA) Showcase at the Tamworth City Bowling Club, and performed on the Fanzone Stage.

Watling & Bates are keeping their engines running during COVID-19 at their home in Unumgar, where they are working on their second album with producer/guitarist Thor Phillips and drummer Marcus Schintler in Kyogle NSW, and enjoying remote collaboration with expatriate bluegrass mandolinist and guitarist Christopher Ridgway from Amesville Ohio USA.

The first single release from their upcoming album-in-production ‘Alice’ is the hillbilly swing classic ‘Candy Moon’, released in time for Valentine’s Day 2021.

Rezz is back with new music! The extremely talented DJ/producer is releasing her new track and official video for “Sacrificial” featuring PVRIS. Last year Rezz was featured on the Billboard for Spotify Canada’s Music Needs Women campaign, “Someone Else” hit #1 on the CA Alt Rock APC, and she took home the JUNO Award for Electronic Album of the Year. Most recently, at the top of this year, Rezz dropped a remix of ‘Violence’ for Grimes and i_o which has been a huge hit!

Rezz, born Isabelle Rezazadeh, is a Canadian DJ/producer from Niagara Falls and undisputed female leader of the electronic music world. Rezz originally fell in love with EDM when she snuck into Toronto nightclubs in her early teens and at just 16 years old she began to DJ. Completely self-taught, she carefully crafted her unique sound and curated her own production style. She oozes originality and produces genre-bending electronic works, striking a sharp balance between bass-heavy and minimal tech compositions. Her talent has attracted the attention of stars such as Skrillex and Deadmau5 and has released several EP’s under both of their labels.

Ritt Momney – Not Around

Rising 20 year old indie artist Ritt Momney kicks off 2020 with new single ‘Not Around’.

The track was co-written and produced by Dayglow who Momney was meant to tour with last year.

This is the first taste of original music from Momney since his critically acclaimed 2019 debut album “Her and All Her Friends”, written solely by himself after his whole band left him as a solo artist to go on a Mormon mission and his girlfriend at the time moved away for college. The album covers themes of growing up, loss and lonelieness.

During the depths of COVID-19 last year, Momney released a cover of Corinne Railey Bae’s iconic ‘Put Your Records On’ that saw viral success, particularly in Australia where it peaked top ten on the ARIA Singles Chart and is now ceritifed Platinum. The cover was a way of Momney dealing with the global situation and hoping to inject some happiness into the world whilst he worked on his second album.

Andrew Jannakos – Gone Too Soon

RCA Nashville’s new signing Andrew Jannakos releases his debut single ‘Gone Too Soon’ to radio
Upon the official release of “Gone Too Soon” to streaming platforms and digital retailers in September 2020, Jannakos debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Emerging Artist Chart, while the track debuted at #12 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart and within the Hot 100. “Gone Too Soon” has amassed over 15 million streams to date and continues to receive a strong response from listeners.
Flowery Branch, Georgia native Andrew Jannakos grew up in a small-town neighborhood where barbecue parties and backyard soccer games were everyday events. Today, that sense of community translates to his nearly one million followers across Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
Since Jannakos first teased his breakout single, “Gone Too Soon,” in a viral clip now viewed over ten million times, that community is only getting stronger.
“It’s been so amazing seeing it all happen,” Jannakos says of his social and streaming success. “Especially when I first posted, being an independent artist at the time. One moment no one knows who you are, and then something goes viral. Then the numbers keep going up, and you realize it’s something more.”
Many of Jannakos’ initial followers knew him for his illustrious run on season 16 of NBC’s The Voice, but it wasn’t until a year later, in July 2020, that his then-girlfriend (now wife) posted a video of him cooking dinner while singing along to “Gone Too Soon” to his TikTok and took his social stardom to new heights. The video racked up 250K likes by the next morning.
But there’s much more to the newcomer’s music than viral appeal – his singing and songwriting come from a deep love for country music, as well as his family’s roots in the genre.

CLOVES – Sicko

Australian artist CLOVES (aka Kaity Dunstan) unveils her brand-new single entitled “Sicko” along with the music video. “Sicko” was co-written and co-produced by Hudson Mohawke and is the second single to be released off of her upcoming sophomore album due out later this year. The music video, directed by Daniel Carberry & Carley Cussen, features an incredible performance by Kaity as she battles between two different versions of herself. The track is available now at all digital retail providers via Interscope Records.

CLOVES says about the song, “‘Sicko’ is my best way of painting the tunnel vision, panic scramble of social anxiety. It’s like a living, breathing second personality in your brain. One which makes you question everything you do and say in social situations, worried that others don’t like you for it. It’s exhausting, not only keeping you from enjoying the present but also fucks with your relationships”

CLOVES’s upcoming sophomore album explores the complexities of mental health, stemming from her own experiences, as they relate to anxiety, depression, and excessive overthinking. Through the album, Kaity creates an aesthetic that encapsulates the world within her own mind with each track on the album representing a different trigger point and stream of consciousness as to how a person can spiral within themselves. Recorded everywhere from Abbey Road to Elmfield Road, Kaity’s glitchy pop darkness, which she calls “dystopian, introverted sci-fi pop,” translates moods, textures and ideas into sound to make the listener resonate with the emotions she was feeling as she created the music for the album.

About CLOVES

Born Kaity Dunstan in Melbourne, music always provided solace for her. She spent all of her time writing songs and performing in bands. Relocating to London at 18-years-old, she introduced herself as CLOVES stating, “As a very introverted person creating somewhat of a persona for myself felt like the most free way to fully express myself without my tendency to over analyze myself kicking in, it felt safe.” The single “Don’t Forget About Me” clocked over 69.24 million Spotify streams as she graced the stages of Coachella, Lollapalooza, and beyond. Her first full-length album, One Big Nothing, followed in 2018. Kaity made her late-night television debut with a performance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, while The Line of Best Fit called One Big Nothing, “an all-encompassing, fearless record that pushes a sincere melancholia to the forefront.” CLOVES has also landed syncs in Me Before You and Vampire Diaries and today, has garnered over 250 million streams worldwide.

Ellery Cohen – Waiting

Ellery Cohen is one of many artists who spent most of 2020 in the world’s most stringent lockdown. The Melbourne-based singer/songwriter, who uses music therapy in his line of disability support service work, has emerged with a fresh perspective and some seriously great pop, releasing his new song “Waiting” today.

Somewhat ironically, the song was written about a girl he met whilst travelling Vietnam – a trip he managed to get in before the world’s borders were slammed shut. The song explores the notion of a love you can’t have until the journey of self-discovery feels accomplished.

“I wrote this song about a girl I met in Vietnam while travelling, she told me that she had left her boyfriend and her life for a year, leaving her life behind. I thought it was so interesting and I wrote a song about what she would say to her boyfriend. It’s a song about love and complexity of relationship and how life can be sometimes. She asks the question ‘will you be waiting”.

Ellery began releasing pop music in 2018, and has since been played on some of Australia’s most renowned mainstream radio stations. He has even stopped in his tracks as he heard himself through the speakers while browsing in Kmart and Target.

Known for his heart-on-sleeve songwriting, “Waiting” is some of Ellery’s most impressive writing to date – a super catchy pop song – fun and upbeat with a deep meaning under its surface.
